2. Trend signal — why now?

India’s private tuition market hit USD 4.1B in 2024 and is growing at 7.5% CAGR toward USD 7.8B by 2033. Over 7.1 crore students receive private tuition — one in four Indian schoolchildren. The typical solo tutor runs 3–5 batches from home, manages 20–50 students, and uses exactly two tools: a paper register and WhatsApp groups.

Three things converged in the last 12 months:

  1. WhatsApp Business API got cheap. Utility messages now cost ₹0.12/msg and service conversations are free. Building a full transactional bot on WhatsApp is finally viable at Indian price points.
  2. UPI deep-link payments matured. A tutor can now send a WhatsApp message with a tap-to-pay UPI link. No app download, no payment gateway sign-up for the parent. Money lands in the tutor’s bank account.
  3. AI inference hit ₹0.01/query territory. A lightweight LLM can parse “Rahul absent today” from a WhatsApp message, update a register, and fire a parent notification — all for less than a paisa per interaction.

Meanwhile, existing solutions (Classplus at ₹8,000–₹16,000/year, ClassPro, Proctur) are built for coaching institutes with 200+ students, full-time admin staff, and formal enrolment workflows. The solo tutor teaching Class 6–10 Maths from her living room can’t justify ₹1,000/month for an app her parents won’t download.

3. The opportunity

There are roughly 10–15 million independent tuition teachers in India (estimated from 7.1 crore students at an average 5–7 students per tutor batch, 3–4 batches per tutor). Most are school teachers moonlighting, retired educators, or graduates running home tuitions. None of them use “software.” They use:

  • A paper register for attendance (lost every 6 months)
  • WhatsApp groups per batch (parents see each other’s messages, fee discussions are awkward)
  • Mental math or a notebook for fee tracking (who paid, who’s overdue, which month)
  • Manual WhatsApp messages to chase fee defaulters (tutors hate this — it’s personally uncomfortable)

The gap: Classplus/Proctur serve the coaching institute. Nobody serves the solo tutor. The solo tutor doesn’t want an app, doesn’t want a dashboard, doesn’t want to onboard parents onto a platform. She wants her WhatsApp to be smarter.

BatchKaro is a WhatsApp bot the tutor adds to her existing workflow. She messages the bot like she’d message a friend: “Batch A: Rahul, Priya, Aman absent.” The bot updates attendance, notifies parents, and on the 1st of every month auto-sends fee reminders with UPI payment links — personalized, polite, in the parent’s language. No app download for anyone.

4. Target market

  • Primary customer: Independent tuition teachers in Indian Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities running 2–6 batches of 5–15 students each, teaching Classes 5–12 (CBSE/ICSE/State Board), earning ₹20,000–₹80,000/month from tuition fees.
  • Why they buy: Fee collection is the hair-on-fire problem. Tutors lose 10–20% of revenue monthly because they’re too embarrassed to chase parents repeatedly. Secondary pain: parents complain they don’t know if their child attended. Attendance tracking from a notebook is unreliable and non-shareable.
