3. The opportunity
The skilled trades compliance stack is bifurcated. On one end: enterprise EHS platforms (SafetyCulture, HCSS, Procore) priced at $24–50+/user/month, designed for GCs with hundreds of workers and dedicated safety coordinators. On the other end: spreadsheets, shared calendars, and paper files.
There is no product built specifically for the owner-operator of a 5–30 person plumbing, HVAC, or electrical shop who needs to:
- Know which certifications are expiring this month across their crew
- Onboard a new apprentice without pulling a senior tech off a job for three days
- Run a 5-minute weekly toolbox talk without spending an hour prepping it
- Produce a compliance packet when a GC or insurer asks for one
These shop owners are not going to sign an enterprise contract. They’re not going to sit through a demo. They want to add their crew via phone numbers, see a dashboard of who’s current and who’s expiring, and get a push notification when someone’s OSHA-10 card is 30 days from lapsing. That’s it.
