2. Trend signal — why now?

Three things just happened, all in the last 6 months:

  1. December 2025 purge. USDOT/FMCSA removed nearly 3,000 CDL schools from the Training Provider Registry (TPR) in a single sweep, then issued warnings to ~4,000 more. “Missing documents” was the #1 stated reason for removal.   2. April 2026 in-person audit blitz. FMCSA launched in-person audits targeting 1,500 additional CDL schools, with school owners given 48 hours to produce all requested documentation or face removal (Overdrive, April 2026).

3. The opportunity

A wave of small CDL schools — the ones that survived the purge and the ones still warned — now has a regulatory motivation they didn’t have six months ago. The incumbent stack (CDL PowerSuite at $324–$622/mo, BoltCDL at $65/student, BOLT) is built for the kind of school that already has a classroom, a leads CRM, a registrar, and three instructors. The mom-pop survivor with one truck, one instructor, and a Manila folder gets nothing aimed at them.

The wedge: don’t sell them a school management platform. Sell them an audit-survival kit. Mobile-first WhatsApp/SMS-driven student intake, range-maneuver checklists timestamped + GPS-tagged on a phone, automatic TPR submission at midnight of the 2nd business day, and a one-tap “audit packet” PDF that an instructor can email to the FMCSA investigator inside the 48-hour window.

The incumbents do most of this for the larger school. None of them sell it as a $99–$149/mo “don’t get yanked off the registry” insurance product to the operator who never bought software in his life.

4. Target market

  • Primary customer: Owner-operator of a 1–3 instructor CDL school in the US, generally an ex-driver or ex-instructor running it as their second career.
