Contract broiler growers get paid by a “tournament” settlement sheet the integrator computes alone — feed weight in, bird weight out, mortality, feed conversion, a ranking against neighbors, and a final per-pound rate. 3. The opportunity
Every poultry farm-management tool on the market is built for the wrong customer. MTech Systems serves “125+ of the world’s largest protein integrators.” PoultryPlan markets to “integrations.” AgriWebb is generic livestock recordkeeping. They all model the operation from the company’s side — production planning, costing, logistics. None of them sit on the grower’s side of the table and say “here is what the integrator’s settlement sheet should say, line by line, versus what they sent you, and here is the dollar gap.”
That’s the wedge. SettleScale is not another flock-management app. It is a settlement reconciler: the grower photographs the feed tickets, the catch (load-out) weight slips, and the final settlement sheet; SettleScale independently re-derives feed conversion, mortality-adjusted pay, and the ranking inputs from the grower’s own logged data and the legally-required scale tickets, then flags every line where the integrator’s number and the verifiable number diverge — in dollars. A $300 feed-weight discrepancy on a 25,000-bird house is real money to someone netting ~$15–20K per house per year. AI is the product, not a garnish. The core job is turning a shoebox of photographed feed tickets, handwritten catch slips, and an inconsistently-formatted settlement printout — which vary by integrator and even by complex — into reliable structured numbers, then reconciling them. That’s a vision + document-extraction + light reasoning problem that was genuinely impractical to build cheaply two years ago. Remove the AI and you’re back to a spreadsheet the grower won’t fill in. The extraction has to handle smudged thermal-printer tickets and barn-floor handwriting, normalize across integrator formats, and the reconciliation has to explain its math in language a grower trusts.
