2. Trend signal — why now?

Three things converged in the last 12 months.

First, damage-claim disputes are the moving industry’s structural wound and everyone knows it. The standard consumer advice is still manual and defensive on both sides: “request that the driver notate each damaged item on the Bill of Lading and take pictures along the way.” When a claim hits, the mover’s own playbook is to ask the customer “are you sure it wasn’t damaged before?” — creating an explicit “he-said-she-said” that claims departments resolve by calling the customer a liar. That’s not a workflow, that’s a knife fight with no evidence.

Second, the tooling that exists is a dumb photo bucket, not a condition record. QuoteIQ-CAM captures timestamped photos at origin/en-route/delivery; SmartMoving and MoveitPro ship claims tracking modules; CompanyCam is the generic contractor photo app. None of them turn footage into a structured, item-level, pre-existing-condition inventory, and none of them assemble a claim rebuttal. The mover still shoots 300 unlabeled photos and, when a claim lands weeks later, digs through them by hand.

Third, AI damage detection got cheap and good — but it’s all pointed at insurers and auto. Tractable and Inspektlabs process accident/property photos into repair estimates for carriers; Arvist tags warehouse OS&D damage. Nobody has aimed this capability at the mover defending a household-goods claim. The capability to parse a walkthrough video into “brown leather sofa, left arm, pre-existing 4-inch scuff” for pennies is a 2025–2026 unlock.

The gap is not “movers need a camera.” They have cameras. The gap is that a pile of photos is not evidence — it’s a search problem that nobody solves at the moment a claim arrives.

Here’s the disruption. Incumbent flow: mover shoots photos → dumps to a job folder → 3 weeks later customer claims the dresser mirror was cracked in transit → owner scrolls 300 photos hoping one shows the mirror → usually can’t find it or the angle is wrong → pays out or eats a chargeback/arbitration to avoid a 1-star review.

That collapses a multi-hour, emotionally-charged, evidence-poor fight into a two-minute lookup with a paper trail. The incumbents can’t easily bolt this on because their photo capture was designed as a CYA dump, not a structured inventory — the AI condition-manifest is the product, not a feature.

The AI is the entire product: multimodal models parse walkthrough video into a structured, item-level, damage-annotated inventory, and a generation layer assembles the rebuttal packet and the plain-English liability summary. The moat isn’t the model (anyone can call it) — it’s that MoveProof is the only tool applying it to the mover’s defensive side of the household-goods claim, with the manifest + e-sign + rebuttal chained into one workflow. Photos are commodity; a signed, searchable condition record that wins a dispute is not.

7. Localization angle

N/A — this is a US-first play. The wedge is FMCSA/valuation-tier liability and the US small-mover claim culture; the regulatory framing (released vs full-value protection, 49 CFR §375, FMCSA arbitration) is specifically American. A UK/EU version is plausible later on different liability rules, but there’s no vernacular/payment-rail localization advantage, and forcing one would weaken the pitch. Stay US-focused until the wedge is proven.
