3. The opportunity
The directive flips a clock onto the seller that no seller’s back-office can compute. A washing machine sold today, repaired in month 10 of its two-year legal guarantee, now carries protection running to 12 months past the repair date — month 22-from-repair, per unit, per serial. Multiply across a few hundred units and a couple of repair events a week and the “what do I actually owe on this serial number” question becomes unanswerable on a spreadsheet. Refuse a valid claim → consumer complaint and fine. Honor a claim you didn’t owe → you eat the cost.
Incumbents don’t touch this for sellers. ClaimLane and Dyrect are brand-facing warranty-claim platforms (“our team of 5 agents is now 1-2”). US players (Consumer Priority Service) sell extended-warranty programs to dealers, not EU statutory-guarantee computation. SmartStore ships a 2025/1960 label plugin for one e-commerce platform only.
