The pain here isn’t a hunch — it’s documented in health-code data and inspector anecdotes.

  • The CDC and state health codes require free chlorine and pH logged every 2–4 hours while a public pool is open (every 1 hour for spas and wading pools). Most facilities still do this with a paper binder at the pump room — which gets skipped when staff are busy, lost, water-damaged, or back-filled the morning of an inspection.
  • “Incomplete or missing documentation” is ~20% of all commercial pool health-code violations — the single most common citation category after chlorine itself. Inspectors don’t have to prove the water was bad; a three-day-old log entry is enough to close the pool.
  • Real, sourced closure: a county inspector closed the outdoor pool of a 340-room full-service hotel because the last chemistry log entry was three days old; the pool was shut for 48 hours over a weekend, the amenity revenue was lost, and the violation was posted publicly in the county health database.

Skimmer, Jobber and Pool Brain all sell “chemical tracking,” but every one of them is architected around the residential service route: a tech visits a backyard pool once a week, logs one reading, emails the homeowner a service summary. None of them solve the commercial facility problem, which is structurally different:

  • The same pool is logged 3–12 times a day, not once a week.
  • The reader is often a non-technical hourly employee (front-desk, maintenance, lifeguard), not a CPO-certified route tech.
  • The document’s job is not “show the homeowner you came” — it is “survive a health inspector and a plaintiff’s attorney.” That means tamper-evidence: every entry locked to a server timestamp, GPS, and the device that took it, so a back-filled binder is impossible.
  • The buyer who feels the pain is the facility (hotel GM, HOA manager, gym ops director) — the entity that gets fined, closed, and publicly listed — not a pool-route SMB.

A focused tool that does only this, beautifully, beats a residential-route product bolted into a setting it wasn’t designed for. We are not competing with Skimmer for the pool guy; we are selling to the hotel that the pool guy doesn’t even invoice.
