1. One-liner

Card-decline rescuer that auto-migrates Brazilian subscription SaaS customers to Pix Automático with WhatsApp re-auth flows — pasted on top of Stripe / Vindi / Iugu in a weekend.

2. Trend signal — why now?

Three things converged in the last 14 months. Pix Automático — Brazil’s bank-native recurring-debit primitive — went live June 2025. The Central Bank then dropped a April 2026 reauthorization rule forcing every active mandate to be re-confirmed in-bank-app or get auto-suspended. EBANX projects Pix Automático volume growing 41% month-over-month through 2026, with the BC targeting R$160 billion of e-commerce on the rail in the first 24 months.

Meanwhile the legacy card-renewal disaster keeps bleeding Brazilian SaaS: cards still carry 86% of SaaS volume and ~15–25% of monthly invoices fail (expired card, exceeded limit, issuer block, fraud lock). PagBrasil and FastSpring both publish that involuntary churn from card failures is the single biggest drag on Brazilian SaaS MRR. PIX renewals approach the ~95% success rate that cards hit in low-risk US categories.

Stripe shipped raw pix_automatico mandate APIs Q1–Q2 2026. Vindi/Iugu added Pix Automático to their billing stacks. None of them ship the orchestration layer — the card→PIX waterfall, the mandate-cap reauth, the WhatsApp re-auth ladder, the price-change reauth flow. That’s the gap.

3. The opportunity

Stripe gives you the Pix Automático mandate API. It does not give you:

  1. Card-first / PIX-fallback waterfall. Try the card on file; on decline, automatically pivot to the customer’s existing PIX mandate or kick off a mandate-creation flow. Today this is custom code every founder writes (badly) themselves.
  2. Mandate cap orchestration. Pix Automático mandates carry per-period R$ ceilings. If you bump the plan from R$99 to R$149, the existing mandate keeps debiting R$99 and the delta silently fails — no error, just under-collection. You need to detect, reissue, and walk the user through bank-app reauth.
  3. WhatsApp re-auth ladder. Reauth happens in the customer’s bank app, not your site. The 4-step ladder (PIX nudge → WhatsApp template → second-channel email → in-app banner) is the difference between 30% and 75% recovery.
  4. Boleto-as-final-rescue. Customer’s PIX mandate suspended and card dead? Drop a boleto with QR for one cycle to buy time.

Incumbents are wrong-shaped:

  • Vindi (Locaweb), Iugu, Pagar.me, Asaas — full-stack billing platforms. Replacement product, not an add-on. Migrating off Stripe is a 6-week project no founder wants.
  • PagStream (PagBrasil), FastSpring, EBANX — enterprise tier, MSA + minimum volume. Wrong segment for a founder at R$80K MRR.
  • Stripe Smart Retries / Recurly — global dunning logic, no Brazilian WhatsApp / Pix Automático cap / boleto handoff baked in.
  • Juspay, Kolek, SocialHub — adjacent (Juspay is India payments; Kolek + SocialHub are billing/dunning generalists).

Wedge: drop-in JavaScript SDK + webhook endpoint that sits on top of Stripe / Vindi / Iugu, intercepts decline events, runs the waterfall, owns the WhatsApp + reauth flow, writes back to the source-of-truth billing system. Founder ships in a weekend, recovers 6–12 percentage points of monthly MRR churn within 60 days.

4. Target market

  • Primary customer: Brazilian SaaS / digital-services / membership founders running R$50K–R$2M MRR (~50–2,000 active subscribers), already on Stripe, Vindi, or Iugu. Subscription products: vertical SaaS, infoproducts, online communities, fitness-app, EdTech, accounting tools, agency retainers.
  • Why they buy: “We’re losing R$8–25K of MRR every month to expired cards and we know it’s recoverable but I don’t have the engineering bandwidth to build the orchestration layer, and Vindi wants me to rip out Stripe to use theirs.” (Direct paraphrase of complaints across the IndieHackers Brazil channel, Startse, and SaaSholic forums.)
  • Rough TAM reasoning: Brazil has ~5,000–8,000 SaaS / digital-subscription companies in the R$50K–R$2M MRR band per Distrito SaaS census and ABStartups data. If 25% adopt at average R$600/mo ACV, that’s R$15M/mo ($3M USD/mo) addressable revenue — well inside the $1–5M ARR target.
  • Why now for them: Pix Automático makes the math finally work (renewal rate jumps), AND the April 2026 reauth deadline means a flood of customers will need reauth UX over the next 12 months, AND every new B2C SaaS launched in Brazil in 2026 is being asked “do you accept Pix Automático?” on day 1.

5. Product sketch (MVP)

  • One-line install: drop a webhook URL into Stripe / Vindi / Iugu — AssinaPix mirrors customer + subscription state via API.

  • WhatsApp template builder: pre-localized PT-BR templates for “your card failed — pay by PIX in one tap” / “your plan price changed — reauthorize in your bank app” / “reauth deadline tomorrow.” Send via Z-API, Twilio, Wati, or BSP of choice.
  • Reauth tracker: queues customers whose mandates were suspended or whose plan price exceeds mandate cap, walks them through bank-app reauth, marks recovery in dashboard.
  • Recovery report: monthly “you recovered R$X with AssinaPix” email + Slack post, makes the ROI obvious to the founder.
  • Boleto-of-last-resort module: generates a one-cycle boleto + QR code via the founder’s existing PSP when both card and PIX fail.

No code, no architecture details. The user-visible promise is: install in a weekend, get a 6–12 percentage point bump in monthly retained MRR.

6. AI angle — what’s load-bearing

AI is load-bearing in three places, not decorative:

  1. Re-auth nudge timing model. Brazilian customers open WhatsApp at predictable but very personalized times. A small per-customer model learns when to send the reauth nudge for max conversion (this is the difference between 40% and 70% reauth completion in similar dunning products).
  2. Decline-reason classifier. Card decline codes from Stripe/Cielo/Adyen are noisy and inconsistent in Brazil. Classify the real reason (recoverable vs hard fail) to choose retry vs immediate-PIX-pivot vs do-nothing.
  3. WhatsApp reply NLU. Customers respond to dunning WhatsApps with “já paguei”, “cancelei”, “manda boleto”, “qual valor?”. An LLM converts free-text into the right next action without a human in the loop.

Strip out the AI and the product becomes a dumb retry queue — recovery drops 30–50% in our reference comps (Juspay published a similar number for India dunning). AI is the difference between a checkbox feature and the actual product.

7. Localization angle (if any)

This is a Brazil-native play. The unfair advantage compounds because:

  • PIX itself doesn’t exist outside Brazil — the rail is mandated by the BC and there’s no global analogue.
  • WhatsApp carries ~98% Brazilian smartphone penetration, ~90% open rates; the primary dunning channel is not email.
  • Boleto is still legally a payment instrument; the fallback hierarchy is uniquely 3-tier (card → PIX → boleto) and nobody outside Brazil thinks that way.
  • Price tier: R$199–R$1,499/mo translates correctly to local wallets. A USD-priced global product would feel expensive at the same dollar value.
  • Compliance: LGPD consent and the BC’s reauth-disclosure rules need PT-BR-first language design; global products either miss the requirement or translate clumsily.

Expansion eventually: Mexico’s CoDi v2 + Pix-like instant rail rollout is moving; same orchestration playbook works in 2027–2028. But starting Brazil-only is the right move — depth beats breadth.

8. Business model — path to $1M–$5M ARR

  • Pricing: Tiered SaaS.
    • Starter R$199/mo: up to 200 subscribers, 500 WhatsApp re-auth messages, basic waterfall.
